Radio frequency identification (RFID) systems are used in several applications. It is widely used in retail, corporations, and schools for several purposes such as inventory, identification, and cashless payments. The components of an RFID system include a tag and a reader. The RFID reader includes an RF module that transmits and receives signals. While the RFID tag transmits embedded signals, which is typically some form of identification. The tag is a passive component powered by the reader. The two components make use of antennas to communicate the signals with each other. The design of the antenna is an important factor to consider in the production of the RFID. The size of the antenna must be small enough to provide convenience and the gain must be strong enough to effectively transmit and receive signals between the two components. In this paper, an antenna for an RFID tag is designed using MATLAB software. The antenna to be designed must be cost-efficient and be able to radiate an acceptable gain. This research creates a dipole antenna with biconical and pyramidal horn design in RFID simulations.

In this paper, a new flexible wearable radio frequency identification (RFID) five-shaped slot patch tag placed on the human arm is designed for ultra-high frequency (UHF) healthcare sensing applications. The compact proposed tag consists of a patch structure provided with five shaped slot radiators and a flexible substrate, which minimize the human body’s impact on the antenna radiation performance. We have optimized our designed tag using the particle swarm optimization (PSO) method with curve fitting within MATLAB to minimize antenna parameters to achieve a good return loss and an attractive radiation performance in the operating band. The PSO-optimized tag’s performance has been examined over the specific placement in some parts of the human body, such as wrist and chest, to evaluate the tag response and enable our tag antenna conception in wearable biomedical sensing applications. Finally, we have tested the robustness of this tag by evaluating its sensitivity as a function of the antenna radiator placement over the ground plane or by shaping the ground plane substrate for the tag’s position from the human body. Our numerical results show an optimal tag size with good matching features and promising read ranges near the human body.

In the evolution of technology through the years, antennas are use in varying wireless systems have been in demand. Antennas play a great role in transmitting and receiving signals. As its application is heavily used in many days to day activities, it is important to create a cost-efficient and quick way to analyze its performance, characteristics, and relationship to different variables. As many radiation pattern acquisition devices are expensive, this simulation proposes a quick, reliable, and cost-friendly way to simulate 2D patterns in the E-plane and H-plane of a bowtie dipole antenna with an adaptive finite impulse response (FIR) filter. Through this study, the software MATLAB will be utilized to successfully simulate the radiation patterns of antennas with varying lengths. With the use of MATLAB toolboxes, the researchers aim to be able to compare different antenna lengths and determine the relationship and effect of it in the obtained 2D radiation pattern. If this method is successful various antenna applications may be implemented in the future with the use of 2D radiation pattern results.
