BACKGROUND: The incidence of illness among students has always been a pressing problem, despite the development of prevention programs. In 2015–2020, there was an increase in incidence among adolescents, most of whom are now students at various universities in our country. Unfortunately, recently, insufficient attention has been paid to educational work and hygienic education in school institutions and educational organizations of the higher education system. AIMS: To study the incidence of medical university students during their studies and the significance of various factors in their lifestyle that affect the health of students. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A one-time sample study of medical students from the medical and pediatric faculties was conducted, in which respondents from the first to sixth years of study took part. A mandatory criterion was that the participant was 18 years of age or older, and before the study, everyone signed a voluntary informed consent to participate. RESULTS: 1050 students took part in this study, of which 810 were girls and 240 boys, respectively. The average age of the participants was 20.5±2.3 years. 59% of males who had body mass index (BMI) values within the normal range (18.5-24.9 kg/m2) did not have a single chronic disease in their history; in girls, the incidence increased with increasing BMI. CONCLUSIONS: Medical school students did not differ significantly from the youth cohort. The incidence rate of respondents, especially in the senior year of study, increased significantly.

Shaping healthy lifestyle in high school seniors is one of the main challenges of society. The high school seniors' lifestyle is formed under the influence of their parents and teachers. The study was aimed to form a picture of the hygienic profile of high school seniors, their parents and teachers. An online questionnaire survey of 158 high school students aged 15–18, 113 parents, 202 teachers was carried out. It has been found that 88.6% of high school seniors spend much time on electronic gadgets, 37.2% spend more than three hours on homework, 39.9% sleep less than six hours per day, 35.3% drink alcohol, 12.7% have tried smoking, 4.0% smoke, 17.3% spend less than 60 min per day outdoors, 54.3% have insufficient physical activity, 25% do not follow principles of healthy eating, 25.1% eat cooked meals less than two times a day, 11.0% have a late supper. Among parents, spending much time on lectronic gadgets is reported in 30.1%, furthermore, 46.9% of them do nothing to improve their health, 55.7% sleep less than six hours per day, 25.6% drink alcohol, 11.5% smoke, 49.6% have insufficient physical activity, 20.4% do not follow principles of healthy eating, 15.0% have a late supper. As for teachers, spending much time on lectronic gadgets is reported in 37.8%, 41.7% of teachers do nothing to improve their health, 59.2% sleep less than six hours per day, 9.5% drink alcohol, 9.5% smoke, 42.8% have insufficient physical activity, 38.3% do not follow principles of healthy eating, 26.0% have a late supper. The hygienic profile of high school seniors, their parents and teachers demonstrates unhealthy lifestyle choices that pose a challenge for their lifestyle and health.

The paper provides the analysis of the research and practical work done at the Department of Hygiene, Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, for the period between 2018 and 2023 aimed to determine the today’s directions of the Department and demonstrate their relevance, scientific and practical significance; prospective directions of further research are defined. Statistical data processing was performed using the Statistica 13 PL software and the tag (word) cloud service. Staff of the Department did extensive educational and methodological, organizational and methodological, expert and consulting, research work (paragraphs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 of the academic passport for the specialty 3.2.1. “Hygiene”); a total of 10 textbooks and three toolkits, three guidelines, two software products, one patent for invention and 39 database certificates, 11 collective monographs were published; two hygienic standards were approved; the activity outcomes were presented during 95 scientific and practical events, including that with international involvement. A total of 150 articles were published: 46 in the journals indexed in international databases (Scopus, Web of Science), 58 in the journals indexed by HAC under the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, one in the Nature journal. Two candidate and two doctoral theses on the specialty 3.2.1. “Hygiene” were prepared and defended. The activity outcomes provided helped to address the hygienic challenges currently faced by professional community to achieve the national goals of the Russian Federation in the fields of demography, public health and digitalization.
