Review of esophageal metastasis from breast cancer

et al.

Abstract: Esophageal metastasis of primary breast cancer is rare, with nearly all the literature on this topic consisting of case report studies. When breast cancer patients complain of progressive dysphagia after a long disease-free interval after breast surgery, they may be treated and misdiagnosed with a second primary. Our aim was to review all the literature concerning esophageal metastasis of breast cancer, for the purpose of improving the awareness in identifying these patients and providing them proper treatment. “…[ 5 ] Esophageal metastasis from breast cancer most often involves the middle or lower third of the esophagus. [ 3 ] Esophageal metastasis always originates from the outside inward, and metastasis to the mucosal layers is extremely rare. Therefore, previous studies have reported endoscopic findings of an esophagus with a normal mucosa.…”

“…A szűkület benignus folyamatra utaló képe rendkívül megtévesztő lehet. A precíz diagnózist az endoszkópos utrahangvizsgálat és az ennek kapcsán végzett vékonytű-biopszia citológiai eredménye tudná biztosítani [19][20][21][22][23], de ehhez a szűkületnek az eszköz számára átjárhatónak kell lennie. Az átjárhatóságot tágító kezeléssel lehet elérni, aminek viszont jelentős perforációs kockázata van.…”

“…The patient sought medical attention due to dysphagia for solids and liquids, associated with intermittent episodes of chest pain, esophageal fullness, hyporexia, nausea, and vomiting of gastric food content 2 to 3 times per week. Three months later she began to have changes in bowel habits: increased frequency (4/day) and decreased consistency (Bristol 6), alternating with periods of constipation (Bristol 1) [3,4]. On the fourth month she presented with ascites and pleural effusion.…”
