Review of Acupoints Positioning and Tracking Technology for Chinese Massage Robot

Abstract: Acupoints positioning and tracking technology (APTT) is the key technology of Chinese massage robot (CMR) and the premise to ensure the efficacy of massage. Research status of APTT are introduced, with emphasis on APTT based on vision, based on template matching (TM), and based on Back-Propagation neural network (BPNN). Moreover, the shortcomings of existing techniques and the prospect of the techniques are discussed in this paper.

“…The massage robot is a type of service robot, and many countries have conducted related research [13], [14]. Massage technology is more mature, and massage robots have also been designed and developed [15], [16] for applications in stroke rehabilitation [17], lower limb rehabilitation [18], facial disease rehabilitation [19], back massage [20], and other areas. To solve the problems of fatigue and reduced therapeutic effect caused by Tuina massage by long-time physicians, researchers have designed and researched massage robotic systems [21], [22], end effectors [23], [24], and control systems [25].…”

“…These strategies enable robots to automatically search and position the pelma acupoint with little real-time computation and storage, and the idea of this paper provides a clue for Chinese medical standardization. Hao and Han [24] introduced the current research progress of Acupoints positioning and tracking technology (APTT), including the APTT based on vision, based on template matching, and based on Back-Propagation neural network, also, the drawbacks of existing techniques and the prospect of APTT were discussed in their paper.…”
