Review article: Deterministic seismic hazard assessment of the area comprised between west Gulf of Cádiz and east Alboran Sea

Abstract: Abstract. The convergence zone of the NE-SW complex comprising the Gulf of Cádiz and the Alboran Sea, at the Eurasian-Nubian plate boundary, is frequently affected by seismic activity, caused by submarine long-strike strike-slip fault systems and arcuate fold-thrust systems found in the region. This has resulted in moderate to high magnitude earthquakes, including tsunamigenic earthquakes, and the area has also experienced tsunamis due to major earthquakes and gravitational landslides. This study carries out a… Show more

“…SHA is a comprehensive process used to assess the potential hazard and impact of earthquakes on a specific region. This process incorporates geological, seismological, and geophysical data to estimate values of ground motion parameters (Beltré et al, 2023). By employing advanced methodologies and technologies, SHA provides valuable insights quantifying the potential hazards associated with earthquakes.…”

“…Vulnerability quantifies asset damage under different hazard intensities [5][6][7][8]. SHA is a key step in seismic risk assessments, assessing earthquake hazards and their impact using geological and seismological data to estimate ground motion parameters [9]. Employing advanced methods and technologies, SHA quantifies earthquake hazards by assessing ground shaking intensity at specific locations [10].…”
