Review and application of operational modal analysis methods in the frequency domain

Abstract

Operational modal analysis (OMA), also known as ambient modal analysis, started its development in the 1990s. Unlike classical experimental modal analysis, it does not require controlled and measured excitation, which makes it practical for use on large structures that are difficult to excite due to their size. Modal parameters can be identified by processing the collected records of the measured quantity in the frequency and time domains, therefore the methods of operational modal analysis can be divided into these two categories. In this paper, the methods developed in the frequency domain are briefly described, and the differences in modal parameters of a bridge superstructure are compared for each method.
