Review

Abstract: Considerable progress has been made in the last few years in the molecular identification and characterization of hepatic GSH transporter-associated polypeptides. We are now poised to determine their precise mechanisms of action and regulation at the transcriptional and post-translational level. It is also anticipated that molecular characterization of the mitochondrial GSH transporter and sodium GSH co-transporters will be accomplished in the near future. With this information, a more complete understanding o… Show more

“…Antioxidants and free radical scavenging systems exist in the cells to protect it against the damaging effects of free radicals [60]. The present study showed that, the oral administration of aspartame could lead to a significant elevation in SOD, CAT, and GPx compared to control group.…”

“… 410 Though the 4-HNE modified H 2 S adduct was not confirmed in this work, the ability to neutralize reactive electrophiles is thought-provoking, as GSH is known to carry out an analogous function. 411 …”

“…The GSH/GSSG ratio in serum is substantially lower (∼3). Whether this meaningfully reflects a cellular redox state is questionable ( 90 ) and it may not be a good indicator of oxidative stress ( 86 ). Thus, most studies measure erythrocyte GSH where GSH concentrations are high, but not necessarily a good indicator of oxidative stress across tissues.…”
