“…S12 (ESI†), the addition of TFA leads to the red shifts of the absorption spectra of SQ-MO-7 and SQ-DMA-7 , indicating that the addition of TFA results in the enhanced conjugation by the formation of the protonated species. 4 m ,11 The emission wavelength of the SQ-MO-7 solution increases gradually, whereas that of the SQ-DMA-7 solution decreases gradually (Fig. 10a and b), which are consistent with the results of the corresponding solid-state samples.…”

“…An AIE phenomenon is especially exploited in solid-state, where the concentration effect commonly causes fluorescence quenching. Having in mind that fluorophores emitting in the solid states are extremely rare, especially red ones, benzimidazole-based AIE molecular systems show a great prospect for future applications of pristine powder samples or crystals as solid-state sensors and 'smart' materials [61][62][63][64][65].…”

“…Most of the TPA derivatives exhibited twisted conformation. [103][104][105][106] The ordered P1 lattices may have collapsed upon grinding due to the probable formation of the twisted conformation of D-A moieties. The possible p-p stacking in the coplanar conformation between the two oligomeric layered moieties might weaken while grinding P1, resulting in enhanced emission intensity.…”
