“…A preliminary note by Sevink et al (1981), showing the results of K-Ar dating performed on the biotites of both a level overlying the fossiliferous beds and of the fossiliferous horizon, reveals a discrepancy between the geochronological age and the biostratigraphical age. Coltorti et al (1982) and Delitala et al (1983) claim that geochronological methods (K-Ar dating) indicate an age of about 0.5 Ma for the in situ tuffs at the top of the sequence and of 0.74 Ma for the sanidines of the colluvium overlying the archaeological site. The fact that the older age is based on colluvium suggests that the age of the site may be between 0.74 and 0.5 Ma.…”

“…730 000 yr BP. Unsuccessful attempts have been made to locate the Matuyama-Brunhes boundary in the series (Coltorti et al, 1982;McPherron and Schmidt, 1983). During the Brunhes chron, though, some reversed events are reported (Chapman et al, 1988), such as Delta (around 0.65 Ma) and Big Lost (around 0.58 Ma).…”

“…The age of this site was for many years matter of debate among researchers. The K/Ar age of 736 ka, provided by Coltorti et al (1982), was considered too old for being in accordance with the paleontological evidences (e.g., the occurrence of A. cantianus) (Kolfschoten and Koenigswald, 1996;Petronio and Sardella, 1999). The new 40 Ar/ 39 Ar data provided by Coltorti et al (2005) assessed the age of the archeological stratum at 610-606 ka, confirming the value of the biochronological framework pointed out for Italy.…”

“…It consists of a large open-air succession of occupations, mainly characterized by wide bone accumulations, close to a river (Coltorti et al, 1982;Peretto, 1983). Several 40 Ar/ 39 Ar ages provided a reference age of 610 ± 10 ka, corresponding to MIS 15 (Coltorti et al, 2005;Shao et al, 2011).…”

“…Several 40 Ar/ 39 Ar ages provided a reference age of 610 ± 10 ka, corresponding to MIS 15 (Coltorti et al, 2005;Shao et al, 2011). The tools are considered matching with an opportunistic late Mode 1 lithic industry (Coltorti et al, 1982;Peretto, 1983;Rufo et al, 2009). La Pineta records abundant faunal remains attributed to the Isernia Faunal Unit (FU) of the Galerian Mammal Age (MA) Palombo and Sardella, 2007).…”
