Reversal of methanation-oriented to RWGS-oriented Ni/SiO2 catalysts by the exsolution of Ni2+ confined in silicalite-1

Chia-Hung Chen,
Hong-Kai Chen,
Wei-Hsiang Huang
et al.

Abstract: Ni/SiO2-based catalysts derived from the reduction of silicalite-1-encapsulated, ligand-protected Ni2+ was found to be effective in the selective hydrogenation of CO2 to CO via the reverse water-gas shift (RWGS).

“…The O 1s spectrum (Figure b) can be divided into two peaks, the peaks near 531.5 eV correspond to the surface-adsorbed oxygen species such as surface carbonates or hydroxyl groups (O α ), , while the peaks near 532.5 eV relate to oxygen in Si–O–Si bonds (O β ) . The ratio value of O α /(O α + O β ) (Table ) in Ni/1.0Na-HNTs (56.2%) is larger than any other catalysts, meaning that there are more oxygen vacancies on the catalyst surface and thus more surface-adsorbed oxygen species generated .…”
