Revealing the Crystal Facet Effect of Ceria in Pd/CeO2 Catalysts toward the Selective Oxidation of Benzyl Alcohol

Abstract: Ceria is an excellent catalyst or support for various oxidation reactions due to its abundant oxygen vacancies and strong metal–support interactions. In this study, ceria nanocrystals were hydrothermally prepared with different morphologies (nanorods, nanocubes, and nano-octahedra) and corresponding exposed crystal facets [(110), (100), and (111)]. The Pd/CeO2 catalysts were synthesized through an impregnation method by applying these ceria nanocrystals as supports. Selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol, invol… Show more

“…19 Besides the nature and amount of defects, the catalytic activity of CeO 2 is influenced by various structural factors, such as composition, surface area, and crystal face exposure. 20 To optimize the structural properties and catalytic performance of CeO 2 , various morphologies, such as nanorods, nanotubes, nanocubes, and nanospheres, have been designed and prepared. In addition, doping or loading other metal oxides into the CeO 2 lattice can cause lattice distortion, generate redox pairs, increase the defects/vacancies concentration of CeO 2 , and provide effective strategies for improving the redox cycling ability, thermal stability, and catalytic performance of cerium-based oxide catalysts.…”
