This work aimed to predict the physical–chemical characteristics of leachate according to the analysis of the solubilized extract from urban household solid waste (UHSW), on a laboratory scale, in the city of Belém/PA, Brazil. The neighborhoods where the waste was collected were sectorized based on geographic and socioeconomic data, with family income as the main parameter. After collection, the material was sent to the segregation area, where a gravimetric analysis of the UHSW was performed and fractions (paper, cardboard, Tetra Pak, rigid plastic, malleable plastic, metals, glass, organic matter, sanitary waste, fabrics and rejects) were segregated. After the gravimetric characterization, it was found that the highest average proportions were 55.57% organic matter, 14.26% sanitary waste and 9.97% malleable plastic. The organic fraction was selected and subjected to drying, crushing, sieving and packaging pretreatment, and then the solubilized extract of this fraction was obtained according to NBR No. 10.006/2004 of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards. In the analyses of the solubilized extract, values for total nitrogen (201.80 to 359.90 mg·L−1), ammonia nitrogen (161 to 289 mg·L−1), nitrate (10 to 40 mg·L−1) and chemical oxygen demand were obtained (28,701 mg·L−1 to 38,608 mg·L−1), indicating the similarity of the waste solubilization conditions to those of leachate from landfills, in addition to being in noncompliance with environmental and health legislation, thus making it necessary to have an efficient waste management system, which avoids the release of waste into the environment that would result in environmental impacts similar to those of leachate contact with the environment.

proveniente do curtimento de couro é uma dificuldade encontrada por ambientalistas e profissionais da área. O lodo de cromo gerado no curtume tem características poluentes e de alta periculosidade, por conter cromo III e em condições oxidantes, pode se converter a cromo VI, o qual é considerado tóxico e cancerígeno, quando ingerido. O trabalho tem por objetivo incorporar o resíduo de cromo em material cerâmico, buscando uma aplicação a este resíduo, trazendo vantagens ambientais e diminuindo gastos à indústria de couro. A absorção de água, de modo geral, diminuiu, porém com adição de 1% resíduo à 1050°C, a absorção de água aumentou. A perda de massa ao fogo foi maior para as temperaturas de 750°C e 1050ºC comparado com a argila pura. A porosidade aparente diminui para maioria dos testes, porém para a adição de resíduo a 1%, ocorreu aumento.(um espaço) INTRODUÇÃOSegundo pesquisas a Indústria do Couro vem se destacando como umas das opções de investimento altamente lucrativas, que ao longo dos anos veem observando um crescimento contínuo e acelerado (Abreu, 2006).A indústria de couro atua como uma alavanca para a economia do país, contribuindo com uma porcentagem significativa para a manutenção da balança comercial em torno de 7%, o que garante ao país cerca de U$ 1,88 bilhões anuais (Beefpoint, 2009).A indústria de couro apresenta no Brasil em média 800 plantas curtidoras, sendo 2,4 mil indústrias trabalhando no segmento de calçados, roupas, bolsas, carteiras, acessórios em geral, artigos para cozinha, para decoração entre outros. Também possui 120 fábricas voltadas a elaboração e produção de máquinas e equipamentos que abastecem os mercados de mão de obra para as indústrias relacionadas ao couro (Escobar, 2014).De forma contraditória, o setor passou a gerar um grave problema de ordem ambiental, considerando especificamente a quantidade de resíduos perigosos de sais de cromo, utilizado no curtimento das peles. Esses resíduos são liberados nas aparas das peles, em pó (proveniente da rebaixadeira) e também em lodos (proveniente das ETE, Estação de Tratamento de Efluentes) (Abreu, 2006; Nardino et al., 2015).
