Reuse of a Damaged Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor for Torque Ripple and Acoustic Noise Elimination using a Novel Repetitive Observer

Abstract: A permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) has its bearing damaged and is irreversibly demagnetized due to overcurrent. Due to the changes in its electromagnetic configuration, the motor suffers from extremely high torque ripple, which produces intolerable speed ripple and acoustic noise. The aim of this paper is to evaluate if a repetitive observer (RO) can be used to smooth the rotational speed and suppress acoustic noise. The RO is functionally the same as a repetitive controller (RC), but is preferred due… Show more

“…The Taguchi optimization algorithm, which is adept in the use of discrete results to identify the optimal point, has been widely used in many areas, e.g., national defense, chemical, and motor applications [ 23 ]. The orthogonal array (OA) and the signal-to-noise(S/N) ratio are the main tools used in this method [ 24 , 25 , 26 ]. The former was applied to design representative experiments and shorten the number of required hours.…”

“…In order to suppress the alternating-current harmonics and maintain the simplicity for the current loop, many researchers have attempted to optimize the current loop controller through resonant control theory and model predictive control theory [12][13][14][15][16]. Additionally, RC strategy and other control strategies are also used to simplify the complexity of the control system [17][18][19][20][21][22].…”
