Retrospective photographic review of nontattoo indications treated by picosecond laser

Abstract: Dermatology is a rapidly advancing field with many technologies added to the expanding armamentarium of the physician, particularly in the cosmetic sector of the specialty. Patients of all age groups and backgrounds seek treatment for skin conditions; these range from young adults with acne and acne scarring to the elderly requiring skin rejuvenation. energy-based devices (EBDs) are increasingly frequently used for the treatment of different aesthetic dermatological problems. Every technology offers a differen… Show more

“…The picosecond laser (Picoway®, Candela™) is approved for tattoos with fewer treatments in addition to lentigines, café‐au‐lait macules, skin rejuvenation, and acne scars. Mehrabi et al 30 also reports picosecond lasers for acne scarring “works well.” The use of a diffractive lens array headpiece in the study was used on patients in up to six treatments with improvements noted in acne scarring 30 . (Figure 7; Patient with acne scars before and after PS laser treatment).…”

“…In 2012, the United States Food and Drug Administration approved a picosecond laser system. This technique seemed promising for treating skin pigmentary disorders other than for removing tattoos 22 . Picosecond laser uses less than a nanosecond pulse duration, which achieves a photoacoustic effect and limits the amount of thermal damage transmitted to surrounding tissues 22 .…”

Picosecond laser uses less than a nanosecond pulse duration, which achieves a photoacoustic effect and limits the amount of thermal damage transmitted to surrounding tissues 22 . In laser therapy, the pulse duration is associated with thermal relaxation time and absorption coefficient of the target chromophore 8 .…”
