“…2,5 Although both flank and transabdominal surgical accesses have been used for open surgery, laparoscopic procedures recently gained popularity. [9][10][11] We preferred ureteroureterostomy for type I, and dismembered pyeloplasty for type II disorders as both techniques have remained the standard surgical approach in the treatment of the circumcaval ureter for many years. [2][3][4][5] The prognosis is good and complications are uncommon after surgery in childhood; however, recovery is slower in adults due to compliance of the pelvis from long-term higher intrapelvic pressure.…”

“…After standardization of access creation and port site positioning, we have performed over 250 miscellaneous procedures on the kidney and upper urinary tract, including more uncommon interventions like uncrossing of retrocaval ureter and section of the isthmus of a horseshoe kidney. This experience has shown that the dissection of the renal vessels can be extended very far to aorta and inferior vena cava [12]. This background encouraged us to investigate the option of retroperitoneal laparoscopic living–related–donor nephrectomy.…”

“…After many years of experience with miscellaneous ablative and advanced reconstructive procedures on the kidney, it was rational to adapt this approach to live–donor nephrectomy in our institution [11, 12, 13]. …”

“…Surgical treatment is required in the presence of retrocaval ureter so as to prevent urinary tract infection, stone formation, and loss of renal function. [4,8,9] In this study, data of patients who had been operated on with indication of congenital retrocaval ureter were retrospectively evaluated and experience in diagnosis and treatment of retrocaval ureter is presented.…”
