Retroperitoneal Drainage of Ureterointestinal Conduits

Abstract: Records of 132 patients undergoing ileal or colonic conduit urinary diversion were reviewed. Drains were placed retroperitoneally in all cases. Urinary leakage occurred most frequently in patients with malignancies and was associated with previous pelvic irradiation or simultaneous cystectomy. Most leaks closed spontaneously with non-operative management.
