Retrieval and Prediction of Three-Dimensional Displacements by Combining the DInSAR and Probability Integral Method in a Mining Area

Abstract: Monitoring ground displacement produced by underground mining is essential to ensure the safety of infrastructure over mining areas. Differential synthetic aperture radar (DInSAR) can only obtain the 1-D [i.e., along the line-of-sight (LOS) direction] displacement component. In this study, we present an improved algorithm for retrieving and predicting 3-D displacement fields induced by underground mining based on the LOS displacement derived from DInSAR and the probability integral method (PIM). Whole paramete… Show more

“…Baochen Liu and Guohua Liao et al proposed the probability integral method based on the stochastic medium theory [25], which is a probabilistic method to represent the subsidence of the overlying strata caused by the underground mining area. The expression of the surface sinking basin is as follows [26,[41][42][43]:…”

“…Recently, the InSAR technique is commonly applied to terrain deformation measurements (e.g., Pawłuszek-Filipiak and Borkowski, 2020;Zhu et al, 2020). InSAR allows for determination of vertical, relatively small deformations, with high accuracy, high time resolution, and even with no data acquisition costs.…”

“…Chen et al [26] combined pixel offset tracking with the SVR method to obtain three-dimensional high-precision time-series surface deformation using the probability integral method model. Zhu et al [31] proposed an improved algorithm for retrieving all model parameters of the PIM using LOS deformation derived from interferometric pairs with the same viewing geometry. Integration of the mining subsidence model with surface-motion estimation from SAR can provide better observation results, but there are certain restrictions.…”
