Retraction Note: Interleukin 17 acts in synergy with B cell–activating factor to influence B cell biology and the pathophysiology of systemic lupus erythematosus

Abstract: Despite many attempts to replicate these results, the authors have been unable to confirm the original data showing that IL-17 alone or in combination with B cell-activating factor controls the survival of human B cells (Fig. 1a,b).

“…A number of studies, mainly from Asian cohorts, showed a correlation of IL-17A levels or the number of Th17 cells with disease activity or organ damage (26)(27)(28)(29). However, one of the seminal studies has since been retracted (30). Our results, which include a PCA, indicate that IL-17A does not exhibit discernibly different characteristics across disease activity and organ damage states, which was a similar finding to that of Zhao et al (31), Cheng et al (32), and more recently, Vincent et al (33).…”

“…Network analysis is an increasingly prevalent tool for representing the complexity of biological processes and how they relate to each other 2 3 4 5 . Identification of active sub-networks (modules) based on omics data sets can assist in explaining properties of the underlying biological system 6 . Networks are also used to integrate multi-source and multi-level data sets to improve the quality of the biological interpretations 7 .…”
