The article analyses the current state of research on the evacuation of a mixed flow of people with the presence of persons of different mobility groups (M1, M3, and M4) as part of mixed evacuation flows. A methodology project was developed, and experimental studies were conducted on the evacuation of a mixed flow of people with the presence of persons of different mobility groups to determine the parameters of their movement, including the density of the human flow, the time of following, the delay time at the door, and the average speed of the participants of the experiment, with the subsequent calculation of the evacuation time. The methodology provides for the simulation of various options for evacuating people during a fire in a separate part of the building. The article considers options for possible formations of human flows during evacuation when multiple M3 and M4 mobility groups are present, each with different percentage distributions. The obtained data were entered into the empirical database sorted into variational series based on increasing density. For each interval, the mathematical expectation was calculated, representing the arithmetic mean value for normal data distribution. The indicated results will make it possible to create empirical tabular data on the movement parameters of mixed evacuation flows. This data allows for the establishment of the dependence between the movement speed of the evacuation participants and the flow density. Addressing this scientific problem will facilitate the derivation of the dependence of the average value of the speed of the free movement of the flow of people (V0) and the density of the flow (D0), after reaching which an increase in density leads to a decrease in speed, on the quantitative composition of participants in the movement of mobility groups M1, M3, M4 and the coefficient of adaptation of the human flow to changes in its density during movement with different percentages of participants of mobility groups M1, M3, and M4. Investigating the Impact of Staircases Rotation on the Evacuation Efficiency

Most people use stairs during emergencies and evacuations. Therefore, this study addressed the impact of staircase rotation to minimize physical effort and evacuation time, hypothesizing that staircase rotation affects the evacuation speed and the safety of the occupants. This study consisted of two stages. In the first stage, a questionnaire was delivered to architects, with two key questions about the preferred direction in daily use and the other regarding evacuation cases. The second stage involved field experiments on two different staircases in the rotational direction, which were applied to 53 participants to measure the efficiency of the staircases in four cases (slow descent, slow ascent, fast descent and fast ascent). The counter-clockwise staircase during the field experiments showed better results and was more efficient. The heart pulse rate (pulse/min) in the clockwise case showed a clear increase compared to the counter-clockwise case by 12.89% for slow descending, 6.91% for fast descending, 21.51% for slow ascending, and 18.27% for fast ascending. Therefore, the theoretical and practical results of the study validated the hypothesis on the impact of the staircase rotation on user comfort and evacuation speed. Moreover, it was concluded that counter-clockwise staircases provided faster evacuation with less physical effort.

A importância do comportamento humano em situações de evacuação é reconhecida por todos os que de algum modo estão relacionados com a segurança contra incêndios em edifícios, como é comprovado pelo elevado número de estudos e projetos de investigação que têm sido desenvolvidos. Nesta comunicação apresentam-se os resultados de um projeto de investigação, que deu origem a uma tese de doutoramento, cujo objetivo foi o de prever esse comportamento e analisar os fatores que mais fortemente o condicionam. Nesse trabalho, a informação que suporta as conclusões foi obtida a partir de 4 tipos de inquéritos destinados a pessoas distintas (pessoas que viveram uma situação de incêndio, pessoas que participaram em exercícios de evacuação, pessoas no geral e bombeiros que estiveram envolvidos nas operações de combate e salvamento). No total obtiveram-se mais de mil inquéritos convenientemente preenchidos, a partir dos quais, e após uma análise e tratamento estatístico, foi criado um perfil tendencial de comportamento dos ocupantes em caso de incêndio. Com recurso a um modelo de simulação de evacuação foi avaliado o impacto desse perfil no tempo total de evacuação em diferentes edifícios que foram desenhados especificamente para o estudo. Nesta comunicação apresentam-se os resultados fundamentais desse estudo, incluindo as conclusões sobre o que importa alterar em termos metodológicos de abordagem do tema de modo que se possa incorporar, no futuro, o conhecimento adquirido com este trabalho.
