“…Therefore, our data showed that EA could promote GM fiber regeneration and restoration of nerves innervating the GM and motor units, indicating that EA had multiple effects. Indeed, in previous studies, EA treatment has been shown to promote the continuous growth of glial cells (i.e., Schwann cells) [ 22 ] and enhance the synthesis of neurotrophic factors, such as nerve growth factor [ 23 ], ciliary neurotrophic factor [ 24 ], NT-3/NT-4 [ 25 ], and IGF-1 [ 26 ], which play important roles in the regeneration of injured nerves [ 27 ].
