RETRACTED: Dorsal wrist ganglion: Current review of literature

Abstract: Ganglion Arthroscopy AspirationGanglion cyst a b s t r a c t Ganglion cyst is the most common soft tissue tumour of hand. Sixty to seventy percent of ganglion cysts are found in the dorsal aspect of the wrist. They may affect any age group; however they are more common in the twenties to forties. Its origin and pathogenesis remains enigmatic. Non-surgical treatment is unreliable with a high recurrence rates.Open surgical excision leads to unsightly scar and poor outcome. Arthroscopy excision has shown very pro… Show more

“…Success has been found with excision of the entire ganglion complex, including cyst and stalk with or without a cuff of the adjacent joint capsule. 1 Open excision of dorsal wrist ganglions has a recurrence rate of 1% to 14%. 6,9,10 Risks of open excision include infection, neuroma, scarring, and keloid formation.…”

“…Common sites for wrist ganglion cysts include the dorsal wrist superficial to the scapholunate ligament and the volar wrist between the radial artery and flexor carpi radialis tendon . While one limited study describes a volar location as more common, the majority of the literature states that ganglion cysts of the wrist are most commonly located dorsally, with 60% to 70% of ganglion cysts in this location …”
