RETRACTED ARTICLE: Circular RNA SOX13 promotes malignant behavior and cisplatin resistance in non-small cell lung cancer through targeting microRNA-3194-3p/microtubule-associated protein RP/EB family member 1

Abstract: Circular RNA (circRNA) presents an essential regulatory role in affecting the occurrence and acquired resistance in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), but how circSOX13 impacts NSCLC is unclear. In this work it was found that compared with adjacent normal tissues, circSOX13 and the microtubule-associated protein RP/EB family member 1 (MAPRE1) were signally up-regulated in NSCLC while miR-3194-3p was signally lowered. Pulmonary function tests (PETs) revealed that knocking down circSOX13 or overexpressing miR-3… Show more

“…CircRNA is a closed-loop structure molecule with covalent bonds that is more stable than linear RNA [20,21]. It was found that circRNAs play important roles in tumor malignancy, including tumor proliferation, metastasis, chemosensitivity, and radiosensitivity [22].…”

“…In this review, we summarized recent findings and research breakthroughs on the role of specific circRNAs in drug resistance in NSCLC. The study of how circRNAs mediate drug resistance is one of research hot topics ( 39 ). It has been documented that circRNAs control cellular processes through several mechanisms which include modulating transcription ( 23 ), serving as sponge for miRNAs ( 134 ), acting as a platform or sponge for proteins ( 65 ), regulating splicing at the same locus ( 22 ), forming functional circRNA-protein complexes ( 65 ), directly binding to mRNAs to regulate their expression, outcompeting linear mRNAs for protein binding and encoding peptides ( 5 , 146 ).…”

“…Circ_100565 was overexpressed in CDDP-resistant NSCLC and knockdown of circ_100565 could overrode the resistance (16). In addition, Zhang et al identified that circSOX13 enhanced MAPRE1 expression by competitively binding miR-3194-3p, resulting in CDDP resistance in NSCLC cells (39). Similarly, circ_103762 expression was elevated following CDDP treatment in NSCLC patients.…”

“…Zhang et al . reported that circRNA SRY-box transcription factor 13 (circSOX13) functioned as a strong contributor to NSCLC cell cisplatin resistance and malignant behaviors via microtubule-associated protein RP/EB family member 1 (MAPRE1) upregulation by sponging miR-3194-3p [ 12 ]. Human circ_0002360, generated by the back-spliced exons of RUNX family transcription factor 1 (RUNX1), is highly expressed in NSCLC and operates as a promoter in NSCLC [ 13 , 14 ].…”
