RETRACTED ARTICLE: Assessing the impact of green fiscal policies and energy poverty on energy efficiency

Abstract: This article estimates the ties between green fiscal policies and energy efficiency in COVID-19 era. For this purpose, data envelopment analysis (DEA) approach is considered and applied. The study findings show that green fiscal policies, such as public supports and tax rebates, have significant role in reducing energy poverty of different international countries by advancing energy efficiency. “…Since many external factors affect EE, a set of provincial-level control variables are added to the benchmark model in this paper based on existing studies to mitigate the bias caused by missing variables as much as possible (Sun et al, 2019;Chien et al, 2021;Du et al, 2022;Wang et al, 2022d;Rasoulinezhad and Taghizadeh-Hesary, 2022). This set of inter-provincial characteristic variables includes regional economic development level (EDL), measured by the real per capita GDP, excluding the price factor.…”

“…This subsequently generated the interest of large private banks and international private investment (collectively, 145 companies from 12 countries). Chien et al (2022) assess fiscal policies and their association with energy poverty. From the analysis, the authors find that a green fiscal policy that includes public support for renewable energy projects and tax rebates significantly reduces energy poverty (Zhakupova et al, 2021).…”

“…While seeking a green energy economy is reasonable for the positive outcome for the environment, the efforts are subject to prevailing political, economic, and social circumstances in different nations. One aspect of the political and economic output is that the oil sector, which represents non-renewable energy, is predominant in most economies (Chien et al, 2022). The success of the green fiscal policies on the investment efficiency in the renewable energy enterprises will depend on Kazakhstan and similar global entities working on releasing their political and economic outcomes from the hold of the worldwide oil industry.…”

“…Despite the negative implications of inflation on energy access and utilisation, several studies investigated the impact of energy on economic and social variables (Zhang et al ., 2021; Li et al ., 2021; Garba, 2021; Chien et al ., 2022; Bednar, 2021). Moreover, the studies seem to overlook the explicit effect of cost of living on energy poverty and the interactive role of governance quality, especially in Africa (Aassouli et al ., 2018; Ouedraogo and Schimanski, 2018; Nguyen and Nasir, 2021).…”
