RETRACTED ARTICLE: An integrated multi-criteria decision-making approach for identifying the risk level of musculoskeletal disorders among handheld device users

Abstract: In work-from-home (WFH) situation due to coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the handheld device (HHD) users work in awkward postures for longer hours because of unavailability of ergonomically designed workstations. This problem results in different type of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) among the HHD users. An integrated multi-criteria decision-making approach was offered for identifying the risk level of MSDs among HHD users. A case example implemented the proposed approach in which, firstly, the best–worst … Show more

“…Therefore, they evaluated risk factors involved in the spread of COVID‐19 and ranked them using MADM methods. The next work 79 discussed the risk level for musculoskeletal disorders among handheld device users. The authors indicated that owing to COVID‐19, 'The work‐from‐home (WFH) situation increased the handheld device (HHD) users to work in uncomfortable postures for longer times because of the absence of proper designed workstations.…”

“…These problems originate because of different factors (individual, personal, psychosocial, social, etc.) identified in the previous studies for MSD causation (Sauter and Swanson, 1996; Kumar, 2001; National Research Council and Institute of Medicine, 2001; Karsh, 2006; Harris et al , 2015; Toh et al , 2017; Xie et al , 2017; Jain et al , in press). Therefore, it is necessary to recognize the critical risk factors amongst the HHD users associated with MSDs in various body parts to avoid work-related health problems.…”

“…The developed survey questionnaire was derived from previous MSDs studies conducted on HHD users (Palmer et al , 2014; Woo et al , 2016, 2017; Toh et al , 2019, 2020) and based on the MSD causation theories developed by the previous researches for a different type of risk factors (Sauter and Swanson, 1996; Kumar, 2001; National Research Council and Institute of Medicine, 2001; Karsh, 2006; Harris et al , 2015; Toh et al , 2017; Xie et al , 2017; Jain et al , in press). Sauter and Swanson (1996) proposed an ecological model for office environments that consists of work organization factors that directly and indirectly affected workers.…”
