Abstract: Purpose:An important cause of avoidable childhood blindness is retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in countries with high human development index and also in some emerging economies countries. To date, no research have been conducted on analyzing data of ROP prevalence in Babol, and this is the first research performed on ROP in this area. Methods:All VLBW babies who referred to Babol ophthalmology center over the seven years, from February 2007 to December 2013 were enrolled in this descriptive cross-sectional re… Show more

“…88,419 A number of subsequent studies found the duration of oxygen therapy to be a significant risk factor for severe ROP. 10,13,39,57,71,74,109,114,131,149,152,167,231,236,257,264,276,283,312,313,315,364,401,412,428 Similarly, many studies identified prolonged mechanical ventilation as a risk factor for any or severe ROP. 11,12,36,39,53,57,106,120,157,167,187,211,232,263,266,274,275,286,335,337,345,348,368,370,405,406,412,417…”

“…Furthermore, the hyperglycemic status in DR patients plays a dual role in the progression of nephrological diseases (e.g., albuminuria), along with DR, due to the preceded systemic inflammation (4). Therefore, numerous DR patients suffer from albuminuria (5)(6)(7).…”

“…Exposing premature infants to supplemental oxygen is an important risk factor for developing ROP [13, 14]. Increased duration and number of hyperoxia events may increase the risk of ROP [15, 16]. Therefore, consensus guideline for resuscitation of preterm infants has been revised to deliver a low fraction of inspired oxygen [17].…”
