“…Except for well-known adipocyte secreted proteins, such as complement C3, adiponectin, adipsin, osteonectin, several collagens, matrix metalloproteinase-2, metalloproteinase inhibitor 2, haptoglobin, and a housekeeping protein beta-2 microglobulin [40], our identification method confirmed five other secreted proteins that have been reported in only a very limited number of studies, such as MIF [41], protein-lysine 6-oxidase [42], extracellular superoxide dismutase [43], gelsolin, and PEDF [8]. Furthermore, five proteins were newly identified as adipocyte secreted factors that have previously been reported as being secreted by other cell systems: procollagen C-proteinase enhancer protein [44], galectin-1, cyclophilin A and C, and SF20/IL-25.…”

“…This normal regulation of C/EBP␀ expression in the presence of RA stands in contrast to the regulation of PPAR␄, as shown in Fig. 3, as well as numerous other genes, including those encoding C/EBP␣, Rev-ErbA␣, lysyl oxidase, and aP2, whose regulated expression during adipocyte differentiation is completely prevented by RA (10,20,69). Since RA blocked the induction of PPAR␄ but not C/EBP␀, the primary mechanism of RA inhibition in normal adipogenesis appears to be at the level of C/EBP-mediated transcription, which would be consistent with the ability of RA to prevent both adipocyte differentiation and PPAR␄ expression in the cells expressing ectopic C/EBP␣ or -␀.…”

“…According to Brandebourg and Hu (2005), the retinoids, which are derivatives of vitamin A, have an inhibitory effect on cultured preadipocytes differentiation; therefore, it has been proposed that the influence of dietary vitamin A level on IMF is mediated by adipocyte differentiation (Dimaculangan et al, 1994).…”
