“…Tilma & Bek (2012) found a reduction of the diameter of dilated retinal arterioles following 1 week of topical latanoprost treatment but did not reproduce this by applying diclofenac. The missing effect of topical NSAID on the arterioles is in contrast to the previously described findings of Evliyaoglu et al (2018).…”

“…Four studies investigated the role of NSAID in DMO (Callanan & Williams 2008;Friedman et al 2015;Pinna et al 2017;Evliyaoglu et al 2018). The beneficial role of NSAID eye drops in relation to cataract surgery and the prevention of pseudophakic macular oedema patients with diabetes and patients with DR has been established (Grzybowski et al 2016) but investigations of its relation to changes of DR and DMO is scarce.…”

“…It can be classified into two types: non-proliferative and proliferative 2 . In non-proliferative DR, the intra-retinal microvasculature is associated with diabetic macular edema 3 . Proliferative DR is implicated in the formation and growth of new blood vessels in low-oxygen environments 4 .…”

“…When evaluated in noncentral diabetic macular edema, nepafenac showed no statistical difference in retinal volume measured by optical coherence tomography with a therapy consisting of 3 applications daily for 12 months [226]. Nevertheless, applying 3 times daily in one eye did show a reduction effect in retinal thickness in another shorter study alongside a narrowing effect on the retinal arteriole diameter from the first week of treatment [227]. The use of NSAIDs is safe and well tolerated.…”
