Restoring degraded peatlands is a promising strategy for mitigating carbon emissions. Large‐scale landscape transformations, such as rewetting of land used for intensive agriculture, often lead to conflicts. Elicitation of the relational values acting as barriers to landscape transformation may support the resolution or taming of such conflicts. This study aimed to explore the relational values associated with a transforming peatland site in Northern Germany. We focused on the value of living and non‐living peat landscape elements; cultural heritage values and identities; educational values; spiritual values; recreational values; and sensory, affective and cognitive experiences. Additionally, we sought to understand how past landscape changes have influenced these values. We conducted interviews with land managers and local residents. Using an art‐based research method, we created six thematic participant‐voiced poems that capture the diverse peatland values. Subsequent interpretation of these poems revealed three key observations: the importance of multisensory experiences; the significance of specific living elements; and the deep cultural and historical values linked to peat landscapes. Landscape changes impact peat landscape values, potentially weakening bonds between people and the peatland. Our study indicates that considering the cultural and historical significance of landscapes may prevent conflicts and foster support for peatland restoration. Ensuring the well‐being of those living and working in these areas requires value‐inclusive landscape planning that embraces a broader focus on relational values. This also involves the potential promotion of value shifts. Such an approach may cultivate a more sustainable and inclusive transformation of the landscape. The theme “local wisdom, sustainability, and education” attracted the attention of researchers, and the number of publications began to increase, making it interesting to study. This systematic literature review (SLR) aims to review various research published in journals indexed in Scopus database related to the theme “local wisdom, sustainability, and education”. The review focuses on publication trends as well as the contributions and recommendations that can be obtained. Disbursement was focused on the largest database in the world (Scopus), where 186 articles were obtained. preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis model was used to obtain suitable articles, so that finally only 10 articles met the criteria to be analyzed. We obtained data that the dominant research was conducted using a qualitative approach or method. There is no dominant author, and all authors are not related to each other. Local wisdom and sustainability “meet” in the word Indonesia, showing Indonesia’s position and urgency in this study. The theme “local wisdom, sustainability, and education” is still not an interesting issue asking for international collaboration, so research collaboration is still local. We discuss all the findings. We also discuss the contributions and recommendations of the 10 articles analyzed, which can be grouped into aspects of sustainable agriculture, sustainable watershed management, implementation of environmental education curricula, and teacher professionalism development. Contributions and recommendations are aimed at all aspects of education (both formal, non-formal and informal education). Findings can be a consideration or baseline for researchers to study theme of “local wisdom, sustainability, and education” according to their respective backgrounds and objectives.

The value of local wisdom for peatland fire risk reduction in the wetland area of South Kalimantan

Mitigation of land fires that occur in wetland areas, especially in peatlands, continues to be addressed by the community in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan Province. Local wisdom that applies in the community, which includes local knowledge, local value, local skills, local sources, and regional society solidarity, is expected to reduce the risk of land fires. The research objective is to analyze the value of local wisdom for peatland fire reduction in the wetland area of South Kalimantan. The respondents interviewed were 30 from the Community and Fire Care Community or Masyarakat Peduli Api (MPA) members. Local wisdom prevailing in the community can reduce the risk of peatland fires. The community has the local knowledge, local value, local skills, local sources, and local society solidarity in managing peatlands. Peatlands managed by communities are less likely to burn than unmanaged lands. The tapulikampar system is a local wisdom in the Banjar community to prepare agricultural peatlands without burning. The Banjar community also has good skills in managing peatlands, which are not easily damaged and prone to burning. Cooperation between community groups in MPA is also well implemented in monitoring land fires and suppression efforts. The community makes maximum efforts so that peatlands are not damaged, and the risk of fire can be reduced because potential resources on peatlands must be passed on to the next generation.
