“…In contrast, a major feature was the number of cows ovulating but not displaying estrus, which amounted to around 20% of the cows. This result is in accordance with previous reports in Zebu cattle indicating that approximately one-fifth of cows do not exhibit overt signs of estrus [ 18 , 19 , 20 ]. In fact, Mukasamugerwa et al .…”

“…Webb et al [54] used the same approach but separating the calves for 72 h with only visual contact and reported an increase in the number of animals cycling. Bolaños et al [92] found that pharmacologically inducing estrous treatment could enhance the percentage of postpartum cows displaying behavioral estrus whether or not the calf was separated for 48 h but were unable to achieve cyclicity in about 50% of those cows treated. These conflicting results could be explained by the experiments of Pérez-Torres et al [51] who compared the reproductive response of separation for 24 h, 48 h, and 72 h. The variability of the response at 48 h seems to be the cause of differences in relation to testing reproductive efficiency.…”

“…This crossing is carried out to improve the productivity of milk production systems under tropical conditions since Zebu breeds exhibit excellent adaptations to these conditions, whereas purebred animals of specialized breeds have serious adaptation problems under the same conditions [ 42 ]. However, although the duration of the estrus cycle is similar between taurine and zebuine breeds, the estrus period is shorter in Zebu females [ 43 ]. Furthermore, estrus occurs in Dairy Gyr cows mainly between the beginning of the night and early morning hours, a fact that can impair the detection of estrus by the producer [ 7 ].…”
