Resummation of jet-veto logarithms in hadronic processes containing jets

Abstract: We derive a factorization theorem for production of an arbitrary number of colorsinglet particles accompanied by a fixed number of jets at the LHC. The jets are defined with the standard anti-k T algorithm, and the fixed number of jets is obtained by imposing a veto on additional radiation in the final state. The formalism presented here is useful for current Higgs boson analyses using exclusive jet bins, and for other studies using a similar strategy. The derivation uses the soft-collinear effective theory an… Show more

“…In figure 4, we show the value of C (2) 3 for the ggg and gqq channels for each fit as well as the averaged result. 7 Because the matrix elements are only valid in the triple collinear limit, the values of the subleading clustering logarithms may receive (arbitrarily) large corrections outside the collinear limit. For example for C (1) 3 the matrix elements needed are those with only one pair of collimated partons.…”

“…(6.5) contributes to C (2) 3 , while the other coefficients are not used. 7 The entire fit procedure is performed over a grid of R c = {0.2, 0.5, 1.0} and x c = {0.1, 0.3, 1.0}. The variation in R c checks that the C (2) 3 contribution is independent of its value, while the variation in x c must cancel with the integrated subtractions.…”

“…In practice, this is done by imposing a jet veto. Several recent papers have considered resummation for the Higgs-boson cross section in the presence of such a cut [19][20][21][22][23], and the resummation is now known to NNLL accuracy [20,22]. In the present paper, we extend the formalism of [11] to the transverse-momentum spectrum of the Higgs boson and perform the resummation of the spectrum to NNLL accuracy.…”

“…Very high logarithmic accuracy (N 3 LL) was achieved using Soft Collinear Effective Theory (SCET) for particular event shapes in e + e − collisions [51,52]. Inter-jet radiation and in particular its response to the presence of a jet veto has also received a lot of attention both from the theoretical [53][54][55][56][57][58][59] and experimental [60][61][62][63] communities, primarily in the context of Higgs-boson studies [64][65][66][67][68][69][70]. All-order analytical calculations have been performed recently for an increasing number of jet-substructure observables, including jet masses [71][72][73][74], other jet shapes [75][76][77][78][79], sub-jet multiplicity [80] and grooming algorithms [81][82][83].…”
