Results of experimental research on parameters that determine stable operating limits of ceramic burner with packed bed of uniform spheres for combustion of low calorific gaseous fuels

Abstract: The research presented in this paper focuses on parameters that determine stable operating limits of porous burner. The experimental research was carried out on laboratory installation consisting of ceramic cylinder filled with packed bed of Al 2 O 3 spheres. Gaseous fuel is prepared by mixing the compressed natural gas (CNG) and nitrogen (N 2 ) in defined ratio, depending on set heating value of the inlet gaseous fuel. Experimental program included combustion of low calorific gaseous fuel (7.5 to 15 MJ/m3) wi… Show more

“…Research in use of metal oxides catalysts in biogas applied technologies varies from improvements in biogas residue bottom ash incineration [7] with the advantage of producing biogas residue biochar, to contribution to complete combustion of biogas in catalytic heat generators [8,9] and biogas catalytic reforming into syngas. Biogas reforming catalysts range from noble metals (Rh, Ru, Pt, Pd Ir) [10][11][12][13] to base metals (Ni, Co) supported over metal oxides, mixed oxides and perovskites [14][15][16].…”

“…Utilization of waste and low-grade thermal energy has been an area of interest for researchers and scientists over many years [1] , with many examples in the literature (e.g. [2,3] ). Specific topics connected with the combustion of very dangerous, explosive, toxic or low caloric value waste gasses have been studied recently (Zhou et al [4] and Friesenhan et al [5] ).…”

“…It is usually used as a catalyst carrier in chemical reactors, as a packing in separation processes -absorption, stripping/distillation, as filter filler and as heat storage in regenerative heat exchangers. Recently, packed beds are used in porous ceramic burners for combustion of low calorific gaseous fuels [1,2].…”
