“…These findings need to be pursued in the phase Ill study, utilizing a concurrent control group. There are currently several studies showing improved ST in malignant glioma patients who are receiving a combination of different chemotherapeutic agents and radiotherapy after surgery [20]. In conclusion this study demonstrates that the combination of CDDP + VPt6 is effective in patients with malignant gliomas and may be beneficial as adjuvant chemotherapy in some patients, as well considering the number of surviving patients after the 18th month post surgery.…”

“…In a recent review of phase II and III trials, Kornblith [17] noted that many of these studies were reported as showing some advantage for the multidrug regimen over control series utilizing radiotherapy alone after surgery. Among the reported studies, in primary malignant gliomas after surgery and radiotherapy associated with supportive chemotherapy with nitrosoureas, given alone or in association with other drugs, it is interesting to note that the TTP was reported as 31 and 29 weeks [18,19], as 32 weeks [20] and as 39 weeks in a trial (EORTC group 83) in which however all cases were not GBM [14]. Unfortunately the trials are often not comparable because differently graded gliomas are mixed in the same list of patients.…”

“…In a late review of phase II and III trials Kornblith [12] noted that many of these studies were reported as showing some advantage for the multidrug regimen over control series utilizing radiotherapy alone after surgery. The TrP in AA patients was 63,7 weeks, according to published data [13]. Unfortunately the trials are often not comparable because differently graded gliomas are mixed in the same list.…”

“…The present study shows that the combination of cisplatin and VP-16 may be effective against malignant glial tumors. Needless to say one year is the MST for GBM reported in the literature [13]. This regimen of chemotherapy could induce stabilization of disease in a high percentage of glioma patients; actually only one out of 5 patients failed to respond to this drug combination.…”
