Restoring the Stability of Long-Term Operated Thermophilic Anaerobic Digestion of Maize Straw by Supplying Trace Elements

Abstract: Maize straw has been widely used for the production of energy through anaerobic digestion, but biogas production can be hindered by a lack of trace elemental nutrients. To address this issue, a lab-scale anaerobic plug flow reactor was continuously operated at 55 °C for 300 days, with a hydraulic retention time of 42 days and an organic loading rate of 2.1 g total solids/(L·day).
