The restoration, rehabilitation, strengthening and conservation of heritage structures is a field of study, research and development that is usually ignored by Civil Engineers and Structural Engineers. As there are more advances and growth in the fields of concrete structures and construction of modern buildings with the latest technology and design, which has also become the buzzing area towards the economic growth. This paper involves the study and review of various research papers dealing with the rehabilitation, restoration and conservation of heritage structures using neo-methods, with a deep analysis of the materials that are to be used. Conservation of heritage structures is becoming the growing need of the hour due to the rapid deterioration of structures owing to various natural and man-made factors. When an Indian perspective is considered it becomes even more necessary to delve deep into the various aspects of preserving our historic structures by strengthening them structurally.

The UNESCO Agenda 2030 emphasizes the preservation of cultural heritage sites, focusing on coastal heritage preservation, which still poses substantial difficulties. While earlier studies have addressed the overall consequences of natural hazards along the Alexandria coastline, there's a gap in how they specifically affect coastal heritage sites, e.g., the Qaitbay citadel (our case study). This work seeks to bridge this gap by assessing the critical hazards faced by the Qaitbay citadel, including crustal deformation due to tectonic events, earthquakes, and Sea Level Rise (SLR) resulting from climate change. To comprehensively assess these challenges, a stack of Sentinel-1 SAR datasets (2017-2021) was processed using the Persistent Scatterer InSAR (PS-InSAR) technique to conduct spatial and temporal deformation variations of the citadel's site and its buildings. GPS measurements of Alexandria's (e.g., ALX2) station were correlated with InSAR results within the same period. Furthermore, satellite altimetry data from 1993-2021 covering the citadel and surroundings were processed to highlight longterm SLR trends. The findings indicate (1) A subsidence rate of -1 ± 0.2 mm/yr, associated with the citadel's foundational structures and identified through the PS-InSAR analysis, was caused by load-bearing effects and sand migration beneath the citadel, (2) a vertical displacement of -1.3±0.6 mm/yr obtained from ALX2-GPS station, consistent with the LOS velocity rate of PS-InSAR time series analysis at that specific location, (3) a SLR trend of +3.96 mm/yr, with notable peaks potentially related to episodes of Northern Ionian Gyre reversal, that could result in changes in water mass redistribution in the surrounding region.

To explore the vibration characteristics and seismic performance of historical buildings in Tianjin, we conducted on-site vibration testing under ambient vibration on three historical buildings with brick-wood structures in Tianjin. Specifically, we delved into the vibration characteristics and seismic performance of historic buildings with brick-wood structures by establishing the vibration analysis model, performing the theoretical calculations, and conducting seismic performance analysis. The results reveal that 1) the vibration frequencies of historical buildings with brick-wood structures are low, mainly concentrated in 2.0-8.0 Hz, which conforms to the vibration range of general buildings; 2) based on vibration analysis, it is concluded that the structural integrity of these buildings is good and there are no obvious structural defects; 3) the layout and storey height of historical buildings have great impacts on the vibration characteristics and seismic performance. 4) the comprehensive seismic capacity index of three buildings ranges from 0.91 to 1.75. The results of dynamic analysis under ambient vibration are consistent with those of theoretical analysis, providing a basis for preserving and reinforcing historical buildings.
