Rest and the associated benefits in restorative sleep: a concept analysis

Abstract: Rest is a concept that is used frequently in the discipline of nursing but also in various other disciplines. Rest is a basic necessity for restorative sleep to enhance well-being through the restoration of the body, mind and spirit. Defining the concept of rest in the practice of patient care is necessary for consistent use of the term in the development of holistic, patient-centred therapies.

“…In turn, these changes are beneficial to initiating and maintaining sleep [9,20,21]. Research also showed positive links between SB and sleep; relaxing before bedtime is often done in a sitting, reclining, or lying position, and can be beneficial for sleep, as it facilitates relaxation and helps to slow down from the day [99,[101][102][103][104]. Moreover, relaxing decreases stress hormones and allows the body to prepare for sleep [99,[102][103][104].…”

“…Rapid implementation has a possibility to narrow the evidence-practice gap by addressing the delay of implementing research into practice and is an entirely new concept. Concept analysis is a method for clarifying foundational ideas and is derived from a deep analysis of core elements of a target problem or issue under investigation [15][16][17]. By way of contrast, an integrative review provides a systematic approach to data examination, and considers a range of diverse studies, often traversing both qualitative and quantitative methods, with synthesis and conclusions drawn.…”
