Response Spectra of Ground Motions and Building Foundation Vibrations Excited by Rockbursts in the LGC Region

Abstract: Surface vibrations induced by mining rockbursts resulting from underground exploitation in the mines in western Poland were analyzed and classified into three different categories. Comparison of the accelerograms simultaneously recorded on the ground and on the foundations of typical buildings, as well as the response spectra determined on the basis of these records, leads to the conclusion that ground vibration characteristics have a significant influence on the nature of vibration transmission from the groun… Show more

“…Fundamental frequencies of natural vibrations (f 1 ) experimentally determined in horizontal directions of the buildings are equal respectively: 2.9-3.3 Hz in a direction parallel to the transverse axis (x) and 2.9-3.1 Hz in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis (y) in the case of building M, as well as 1.44-1.50 Hz in a direction parallel to the transverse axis (x) and 2.06-2.17 Hz in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis (y) in the case of building H [1].…”

“…Mining tremors have been observed in many countries all over the world. These phenomena refer to underground exploitation of coal, copper, and gold mines in China, Australia, South Africa, Canada, India, France, Czech Republic, Russia, and Poland [1]. They are random events with respect to their time, place and magnitude, as with earthquakes.…”
