Response of the Czech hybrid hop cultivar Agnus to the term of pruning, depth of pruning and number of trained bines

Abstract: ABSTRACTagnus is a Czech hybrid hop cultivar and a statistically significant influence of depth and term of pruning on harvested hop cones yield and on alpha-bitter acids content in hop cones were found in this study. Evaluated agrotechnical measures, i.e. depth of pruning, term of pruning and number of trained bines, considerably influenced performance and quality of newly grown hop genotype. Every year, we found a positive influence of shallow pruning on yield (increase of dry hop cones yield in 2003 by 0.37… Show more

“…Cutting time, which in relation to yield and alpha acid content seems to be the optimal one, in the coming years is evaluated as less favorable. These results do not correspond completely with the conclusions reached by Krivanek (2008). The time period in which hop crowns are cut undoubtedly influences yield and alpha acids.…”

“…In warmer localities with lighter soil, hop plants ought to be cut later, and on the contrary, in colder heavy soils hop plants should be cut earlier, in order to speed up the time of sprouting and training of hops shoots (Kopecky 2008). Effect of cutting in Agnus variety on yield and alpha acid content was examined by Krivanek (2008) in the years [2003][2004][2005]. He found that later cutting caused a reduction in the number of shoots suitable for training and time lag for the development and maturation of hop cones until the first decade of September.…”
