Response of provenance transition of Middle Jurassic–Early Cretaceous sediments to tectonic domain transformation in the North Yellow Sea Basin, Eastern North China Craton

Abstract: In the Late Mesozoic, the Eastern North China Craton changed from being controlled by the Palaeo‐Asian tectonic domain to the marginal Pacific tectonic domain. The Eastern North China Craton transformed the E–W compression to NNE–SSW extensional tectonics under the influence of two tectonic domain transformations. However, the timing of the transformation of the tectonic domains remains controversial. The North Yellow Sea Basin is located in an important position in the Eastern North China Craton at the juncti… Show more

“…Generally, a high Rb/Sr value of lacustrine sediment indicates a humid and warm climate, and a low Rb/Sr value indicates a dry and hot climate. A Sr/Cu value of 1.5-7.0 indicates a warm and humid climate, and a Sr/Cu value greater than 10 indicates a dry and hot climate (Yu et al, 2021). The sediments of the continental rift basin are featured by close provenance, and the terrigenous input has an important impact on the composition and texture of lithofacies.…”
