Response of Phenylpropanoid Pathway and the Role of Polyphenols in Plants under Abiotic Stress

Abstract: Phenolic compounds are an important class of plant secondary metabolites which play crucial physiological roles throughout the plant life cycle. Phenolics are produced under optimal and suboptimal conditions in plants and play key roles in developmental processes like cell division, hormonal regulation, photosynthetic activity, nutrient mineralization, and reproduction. Plants exhibit increased synthesis of polyphenols such as phenolic acids and flavonoids under abiotic stress conditions, which help the plant … Show more

“…The Plants 2020, 9, 375 6 of 16 highest differences in appearance and antioxidant status between the AMF-inoculated plants and the control were recorded in hyssop, and the lowest in tarragon ( Figure 3). Antioxidant defense plays a major role in protection against plant biotic and abiotic stresses [38,39]. Data presented in Table 3 reveal significantly lower levels of ascorbic acid, chlorophyll, carotenes, phenolics and total antioxidant activity of control plants compared to those inoculated with AMF, which was consistent with the aspect of samples subjected to high temperature and humidity ( Figure 2).…”

“…Low temperatures could decrease level of Ros in study, in which results were inconsistent with Sharma(Sharma, Shahzad, Kumar, et al, 2019;Sharma, Shahzad, Rehman, et al, 2019), due to different species possibly.Forty-seven annotated DEGs were identified in photosynthesis and Ros pathways between CKL and U3. “…Among these DEGs, most genes were down-regulated genes. Low temperatures could decrease level of Ros in study, in which results were inconsistent with Sharma(Sharma, Shahzad, Kumar, et al, 2019;Sharma, Shahzad, Rehman, et al, 2019), due to different species possibly.Forty-seven annotated DEGs were identified in photosynthesis and Ros pathways between CKL and U3. Among them, chloroplastic, peroxidase 2 and peroxidase 12, pyruvate, phosphate dikinase 2 isoform X1, peroxidase N OS = Armoracia rusticana, peroxisomal (S)-2-hydroxy-acid oxidase GLO3, peroxidase 52, peroxidase 21, and peroxidase 54 were significantly up-regulated.…”

“…Two 2 essential elements in Tithonia diversifolia could explant this models' impact on total proteins 3 and total polyphenols. Nitrogen involved in the preparation of macromolecules and 4 potassium known as an activator of different enzymes[11][21] notably the phenylalanine 5 ammonia lyase (PAL), involved in the biosynthesis of the polyphenol compounds in plants 6[22]-[23].7Overall, the treatment T5 is the most impacting one for the production of the improved PIF 8 plantain seedlings in the nursery. It is based on Tithonia diversifolia liquid extract, and act as 9 a fertilizer and fungicide in the control of disease of PIF seedling as previously reported for 10 another pathosystem[14][20].…”
