Response of Onion Yield and Its Chemical Content to NPK Fertilization and Foliar Application of Some Micronutrients

Abstract: HE PRESENT study was conducted at the Experimental Farm of the Faculty of Agric., Mansoura University. Six treatments were arranged in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications as follows: 50% and 100% from the recommended doses (RD) of NPK, 300 Fe mg L -1 + 50% from RD of NPK, 50 Cu mg L -1 +50% from RD of NPK, 100 Zn mg L -1 + 50% from RD of NPK and Fe + Cu + Zn + 50 % from RD of NPK. Micronutrients were added as foliar application while NPK as soil addition. Obtained results indicated that al… Show more

“…Seed yield per plot Similar results were suggested by spraying onion plants with a solution containing 300 ppm of micronutrients chelate 14% Zn four times significantly increased total yield (Fouda, 2016). (Khalil et al, 2008) showed that a foliar spray of 1% ZnSO4 to onion produced the highest seed yield per plant and unit area with high germination percentage.…”

“…However, yields in Ghana are rather low. The comparatively lower onion bulb yields in Ghana could be attributed to inappropriate agronomic practices which include poor soil amendment [6]. The use of appropriate agronomic management practices play a huge role in increasing crop yields.…”

“…Past studies on phosphorus reflect improving the vegetative growth parameters, including plant height, length of tubular leaf, the number and weight of tubular leaves, along with augmenting yield traits, viz., the number of bulbs per plant, the weight and diameter of the bulb, and bulb yield per plant (Addai and Anning, 2015;Fouda, 2016;Aboohanah et al, 2019). Subsequently, these elements of NPK fertilizer have a positive role in the biochemical traits, such as, leaf chlorophyll, leaf carotenoid, and carbohydrate content (El-Shaboury and Ewais, 2020).…”
