Response of hypersonic compression corner flow to upstream disturbances

Abstract: Hypersonic flow over a two-dimensional compression corner is investigated using computational fluid dynamics and global resolvent analysis in this study, which is a continuation of the work done by Hao et al. (J. Fluid Mech., vol. 919, 2021, p. A4). The same baseline free-stream conditions with a Mach number of 7.7 and a unit Reynolds number of 4.2 × 106 m−1 are considered. The ramp angles range from 0° (equivalent to a flat plate) to 12° (slightly below the critical angle of global instability). During this p… Show more

“…Crouch et al [253] proposed a biglobal instability analysis framework based on the linearized compressible RANS equations (in particular, they used the S-A model), which is efficient in predicting the onset of flow unsteadiness for the post-cylinder vortex shedding and shockinduced transonic buffet onset cases examined. As one more application, Hao et al [254] investigated shockwaveturbulent boundary layer interactions over a compression corner through biglobal instability and response analyses. As shown in Fig.…”

“…Prior grid convergence of resolvent analysis is conducted, and the converged results are further compared with the DNS and PSE results. More details about the resolvent analysis solver and the associated validation cases are described in Hao et al (2023).…”
