Response of concrete cast in permeable moulds to severe heating

Abstract: This paper evaluates the effect that a permeable mould, such as would be used to create fabric-formed concrete, may have on the heat-induced explosive spalling performance of cast concrete, using a novel experimental fire testing method and supported by scanning electron microscopy. Recent research suggests that a concrete cast using fabric formwork will gain durability enhancements at the cast surface that may negatively affect pore-pressure expulsion during severe heating. Six concrete samples were cast usin… Show more

“…Concrete microstructure is most commonly studied using mercury porosimetry (MIP) [ 21 , 22 , 23 , 24 ], computer microtomography (MCT) [ 25 , 26 , 27 ] and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) [ 28 , 29 , 30 , 31 ]. We also applied the above methods; however, we tried to extend the interpretative possibilities of their results.…”

“…The production of PUR rubber parts is the main reason why is to extend the time of production and therefore make the higher mould cost also. [3,4] The production of moulds for refractory bricks is very similar to production of foundry core boxes. The mould base is dismountable case with shaped inserts are put into.…”
