Response of an oncology unit in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak

Abstract: Coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused an emergency in health systems worldwide. Apart from its apparent morbidity and mortality, COVID-19 has also imposed unique challenges in the management of cancer patients. We report here measures taken by a major oncology Unit in Greece to continue operation of the department while ensuring safety of the patients and health care professionals. “…Following guidance from the Greek Health Care Authorities, international organizations, and oncological societies, a series of protective measures were implemented by the Oncology/Hematology Unit and were approved by the Infection Committee of our hospital.
