Response in Physicochemical Properties of Tobacco-Growing Soils and N/P/K Accumulation in Tobacco Plant to Tobacco Straw Biochar

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the response of physicochemical properties of tobacco-growing soils and N/P/K accumulation of tobacco plant to tobacco straw biochar. Two contrasting tobacco-growing soils of paddy soil (Ultisol in USDA taxonomy) and brown soil (Alfisol in USDA taxonomy) were selected to conduct the pot experiments. Five addition rates (w/w) of tobacco straw biochar of 0%, 1%, 2%, 4%, and 10% without or with tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) were applied in a greenhouse. The 7.41-35.90% i… Show more

“…The enrichment effect (EC) of Brassica chinensis L. on six types of heavy metals was also weak, and the EC value was signi cantly reduced after adding biochar. This nding con rms the ndings of Zheng et al (Zheng et al 2020), who had prepared biochar using attapulgite and sludge pyrolysis. Moreover, compared with the EC value of the CK group, the enrichment factors of Brassica chinensis L. for heavy metals decreased in the order of: Zn > Cu > Ni > Cd > Pb > Cr.…”

“…The increase in leaf area index of the flue-cured tobacco lays the foundation for improving the maturity and yield quality of the flue-cured tobacco at the later stage. Biochar can increase the total biomass of tobacco, which is an important economic crop 42 . Therefore, the increased total biomass is of great significance to farmers.…”

“…The methodologies employed in our study, meticulously adapted and expanded from [24][25][26][27][28][29][30], were instrumental in providing a comprehensive analysis of the soil samples. These methods enabled us to accurately assess the content of Pb, Cr, and Zn, thereby offering insights into the heavy metal pollution levels of the area.…”
