Response Collector: A Video Learning System for Flipped Classrooms

Abstract: The flipped classroom has become famous as an effective educational method that flips the purpose of classroom study and homework. In this paper, we propose a video learning system for flipped classrooms, called Response Collector, which enables students to record their responses to preparation videos. Our system provides response visualization for teachers and students to understand what they have acquired and questioned. We performed a practical user study of our system in a flipped classroom setup. The resu… Show more

“…Moreover, the concepts which are complex for students are also considered in some tools that provide visualizations which show the students’ knowledge of these concepts . Videos are also analyzed in some tools, such as in where students can label the videos as “interesting,” “important,” or “difficult,” or in where the tool provides visualizations about the students’ visualization patterns (e.g., number of plays, pauses while watching the video, or whether the video has been completely watched or not). Therefore, taking into account this information, we can see that our tool does not offer any new visualization, apart from the two visualizations related to the utility of the videos which are innovate (as far as we know, there is not any other tool that shows these two visualizations).…”
