Respiratory symptoms and pulmonary functions before and after pesticide application in cotton farming

Abstract: Ojective. To investigate respiratory health problems related to pesticide exposure in the inhabitants of agricultural areas. Materials and method. This study included 252 participants prior to pesticide application and 66 participants from the first group after pesticide application across four cotton farms. Symptom questionnaires were filled out by participants and respiratory function tests were measured before and after pesticide exposure. In addition, PM 10 , PM 2.5 , air temperature, and humidity were mea… Show more

“…30 In a study conducted in Turkey, there was harm to the respiratory tract after use of pesticides in agriculture. 31 Importantly, the effects of PM 2.5 on human health depend on its composition. In a systematic review in which the aim was to identify the properties of PM in the Amazon biome, its predominant characteristic was found to be high concentrations of biogenic elements during the rainy season and anthropogenic elements during the dry season.…”

“…Exposure to pesticides has additionally been shown to be highly correlated with respiratory pathologies (asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung cancer) [23,24]. Previous studies have demonstrated that molecular hydrogen could exert protective effects on various respiratory symptoms, such as asthma [25], COPD [26,27,28], and lung cancer [29,30], suggesting that molecular hydrogen may also have protective effects on respiratory system injury caused by pesticides exposure, although this, too, need to be further investigated.…”
