Resource Provision of Innovations in Agricultural Enterprises in the South of the Russian Far East

Abstract

What resources can help innovate sustainable development? Does resource scarcity limit innovation towards sustainability? This study explores the resource-based innovation capabilities of soybean producers, based on empirical data from large and medium-sized enterprises in the southern Russian Far East. The findings suggest that businesses can innovate with very different combinations of resources. The limiting factors are "machinery and equipment" and "number of employees" (insufficient use from the standpoint of allocative efficiency), resources such as "sown area" and "material costs" are used excessively. In farms capable of innovative development, the value of revenue, as a rule, exceeds the standard value and is 2-3 times higher than the average revenue for the entire set of enterprises, which indicates the efficiency of resource use and the ability to innovative development.
