Resource allocation in cloud virtual machines based on empirical service traces

Abstract: SUMMARYOne of the key technologies in cloud computing is virtualization. Using virtualization, a system can optimize usage of resources, simplify management of infrastructure and software, and reduce hardware requirements. This research focuses on infrastructure as a service, resource allocation by providers for consumers, and explores the optimization of system utilization based on actual service traces of a real world cloud computing site. Before activating additional virtual machines (VM) for applications, … Show more

“…Moreover, virtual nodes can also satisfy the requirements of cloud‐based experiments. We have started the initial research on this issue . In phase 5 of Testbed@TWISC, we have deployed some VMWare and Xen servers to host virtual nodes for supporting user experiments. Better user experience: By observing utilization, we found that node shortage is the most crucial area of concern.…”

“…Ch.-H. Lin, Ch.-T. Lu, Y.-H. Chen, and J.-Sh. Li explored the behavior of the virtual machine according to their actual service for resource usage optimization in [19]. For the solution of the virtual machine allocation problem, an ideal threshold was introduced according to the probability distribution function so that for every virtual machine the total CPU utilization is reduced and the VM execution SLA is accomplished.…”

“…Lin et al [127] focus on the cloud providers to efficiently utilize resources by fixing VM arrangement to the cloud users for IaaS by historical empiric service data traces. The foremost influences are to describe a problem of VM allocation and define the appropriate beta distribution of the CPU component by the use of empirical data collection to resolve the issue.…”
