Resonant sequential scattering in two-frequency-pumping superradiance from a Bose-Einstein condensate

Abstract: We study sequential scattering in superradiance from a Bose-Einstein condensate pumped by a two-frequency laser beam. We find that the distribution of atomic side modes presents highly different patterns for various frequency difference between the two pump components. A novel distribution is observed, with a frequency difference of eight times the recoil frequency. These observations reveal that the frequency overlap between the end-fire modes related to different side modes plays an essential role in the dyn… Show more

“…This scheme is widely studied in photon echo (Piovella et al, 2003), decoherence (Fallani et al, 2005), spatial distribution effects and self-organized formation of dynamic gratings (Hilliard et al, 2008). Since the pulse length is far longer than the initial spontaneous process (Zobay & Nikolopoulos, 2006), we choose the semi-classical theory which can well describe the experimental results (Bar-Gill et al, 2007;Yang et al, 2008;Zobay & Nikolopoulos, 2006).…”

“…-Our experiment (see Fig.1) is carried out with a BEC of 2.5 × 10 5 87 Rb atoms in the F = 2, m F = 2 state [12,13]. Obtained after trapping of cold atoms in a QUIC trap (longitudinal trapping frequency ω x = 20 Hz and radial trapping frequency ω r = 200 Hz) and further radio frequency evaporative cooling, our BEC is cigar-shaped, with 70 µm length and 7 µm width.…”
