Resolution of ST-segment elevation in acute myocardial infarction — Early prognostic significance after thrombolytic therapy

Abstract: In acute myocardial infarction, early identification of patients at a high mortality risk is important for planning further therapeutic strategies. Previous studies have demonstrated that the extent of early resolution of ST-segment elevation may represent a simple, quick and noninvasive assessment to identify high risk groups of patients. In a subgroup of the COBALT Study population (Continuous Infusion vs Double Bolus Administration of Alteplase), ST-segment elevation was measured before and 90 to 120 minute… Show more

“…Incomplete or failed reperfusion is associated with increased risk of complications 6 . Analysis of STsegment resolution on ECG, after fibrinolytic S777 therapy, in cases of ST elevation myocardial Infarction offers an attractive and cost effective solution to assess coronary reperfusion 7 . Whereas coronary angiogram is a marker for epicardial reperfusion, ST segment resolution offers a better reflection of micro vascular reperfusion 8 .…”
